Bismarck Electric Fireplace Installation

Project: Wall “bump out” for electric fireplace

Electric Fireplace Installation — Bismarck/Mandan, ND

Some projects are fairly straightforward. Others are the kind that genuinely change a room. This one landed firmly in the second category.

I completed this electric fireplace wall for a family in Mandan — one of several projects I've had the pleasure of doing for them over the years. The goal was to build a dedicated accent wall in their living room, house a new electric fireplace insert, and give the space a focal point it had been missing.

The Fireplace

The insert is a Paramount Triad 48" linear electric fireplace — a sleek, contemporary unit with a wide viewing area and flame settings controllable by remote or app. It puts out supplemental heat when you want it and looks just as good when you don't. Electric fireplaces like this one are an increasingly popular choice for homeowners who want the ambiance of a fireplace without the venting requirements or fuel costs of gas or wood-burning units.

The Build

The wall was framed out as a bump-out from the existing wall, creating depth to recess the insert and give the mantel something to sit against. Once framing was complete, Selby Electric came in to run dedicated wiring and a new breaker for the fireplace — something that's easy to overlook in the planning stage but is non-negotiable for safe, code-compliant installation. He also added an outlet on the wall face for a TV that the homeowners are planning to mount above the mantel.

Drywall went up next, finished with texture to match the existing living room walls and bullnose corners throughout. The whole wall was painted to blend seamlessly with the room rather than stand apart from it. A 90 degree duct was added to the existing floor duct to redirect out the front of the accent wall.

The Mantel

The mantel shelf is a Dogberry Collections Modern Farmhouse 60" in Aged Oak — a clean, substantial piece that bridges the contemporary insert with a warmer, more organic finish. It lands well between modern and traditional without committing hard to either.

The Result

The room has a centerpiece now. The TV mount and install are still coming once the new set arrives, but even without it, the wall reads as complete — which is usually a good sign. Baseboards will also be installed on the return visit.

If you're considering an electric fireplace installation in the Bismarck or Mandan area, I'm happy to talk through what's involved. Every project is a little different, and this one is a good example of what a well-planned build can do for a living space.
